The Investigative Fund at The Nation Institute seeks a Senior Editor

About The Investigative Fund

The Investigative Fund’s mission is to produce high-impact investigative reporting that holds the powerful accountable. We seek to bring underreported stories to light, cultivate diverse journalistic talent, and create a home for independent journalism that serves the public. We enable independent investigative reporters to produce deeply reported journalism for a wide variety of print, broadcast and digital media outlets by providing them with editorial guidance, institutional support and funds to cover their travel, time and other reporting costs. Investigative Fund stories have sparked Congressional investigations, federal indictments, and more; they have also won some of journalism’s top honors.

The Investigative Fund is a project of The Nation Institute, a nonprofit media center, which is also home to a book imprint, Nation Books; a journalism fellowship program; TomDispatch; a journalism internship program; and other media projects.

Job Description

The Senior Editor will be responsible for directing the Ida B. Wells Fellowship program, a new initiative launched in 2016 to promote diversity in journalism. By mentoring reporters of color and other diverse reporters on their first in-depth investigative projects, this editor will have the opportunity to make a meaningful intervention in the careers of emerging reporters and to contribute to diversifying the field of investigative journalism.

Running the Ida B. Wells program is currently a half-time position. We are equally open to structuring the position as a full-time post, with additional editorial duties.
